They have millions of users but had a net loss in 2006. CEO Michael Tribolet about what’s new, what’s next and where the company is headed.

In February 2007, Vonage Holdings Corp. released its fourth-quarter and full-year earnings for 2006. Year-over-year revenue increased 126 percent to $607 million and subscriber lines increased 75 percent to over 2.2 million—but the company still had a net 2006 loss of $286 million. It sounds remarkably like the pre-profit Amazon: Millions of people happily pay for a service that’s not generating profits just yet.

Amidst these financial releases, Vonage America Inc. president Michael Tribolet took time out to answer a few questions about price vs. value, safety and security, and how Vonage deals with the threat of commoditization.
